The Liberal Lady Red Swim Team traveled to Garden City for a six-team invitational. The team had a strong showing led by veterans Alexis Ugalde, Jyzelle Juarez, and Nathalie Ortega.
A key factor in the team’s success was the performance of the relay teams, which accounted for 94 of the team’s 174 total points and helped secure a third-place finish behind Garden City (1st) and Hays (2nd).
Taking a page out of Coach Cornelson’s track strategy, the team was able to enter at least two participants in every event except the 200 IM. This depth allowed Liberal to outlast Holcomb, Dodge City, and Great Bend.
There were also many personal records set by younger and newer swimmers, showing great promise for the future of the program as they continue to grow.
The team will now take a short break before returning to competition on April 24th, when they travel to Salina South.
