The Liberal Redskins committed 28 turnovers in a 73-47 loss to the Dodge City Red Demons Friday night at the Dodge City Field House. The Red Demons put up 31 more shots than Liberal. The Skins lose for the fifth straight time.
Coming off a loss at Guymon on Tuesday, the Red Demons jumped to a 17-11 lead after one quarter. Dodge vaulted ahead 24-13 in the second quarter. After scoring 34 at Guymon Tuesday, DCHS led Liberal 36-20 at halftime. Liberal cut the lead to 45-35 early in the third quarter, but the Demons led 51-37 after three despite LHS out pacing DCHS 17-15 in the third. But Dodge dominated the fourth quarter 22-10.
LHS was 15-40 from the field for 38 percent and Dodge City was 30-71 for 42 percent. Liberal had 28 turnovers and DCHS had 10. Dodge City led points off turnovers 30-7. Liberal was 4-11 from three and 13-19 at the foul line and Dodge was 12-34 from three for 35 percent and 1-4 at the foul line.
James Fieser scored a career high 18 points on 5-10 shooting. He was 3-6 from three point range. Zayden Martinez had 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Brooks Kappelmann had nine points and nine rebounds.
Liberal is 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the WAC. Dodge City is 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. Liberal plays Abilene Thursday at 4:30 in the Salina Invitational on 1270 and 92.3.
