For the first time since 2019, the Seward County Saints win a postseason basketball game. For the first time since 2018, the Saints win a home postseason game. Seward topped the visiting Colby Trojans 82-66 Saturday night in the Green House. The Saints finish 12-3 at home.
The Trojans jumped out to leads of 6-0 and 9-3. It was 12-9 Colby at the under 16 media timeout. Seward led 26-21 at the under 8 media timeout. Antonio Williams Jr. buried a pair of 3’s in his return to the lineup to give the Saints a 38-27 lead. It was 38-31 Saints at the half. Seward took their biggest lead of 44-31 after a pair of Brevyn Coleman 3’s early in the second half. It was 46-35 SCCC at the under 16 media timeout. The Saints took leads of 52-35, 55-38, and 57-40. SCCC led 60-44 at the under 12 media time out. Seward led 62-44 with 10:45 remaining before Colby went on a run of 9-0 to make it 62-53. The Seward lead ballooned to 74-53.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Antonio William Jr. with 16 points. Awit Mamer, Lucas N’Gombo, and Lyna Brooks Jr. scored 11 a piece.
The Saints had 29 assists and nine turnovers. Seward connected on 17-37 three pointers. Seward shot 48 percent from the field and shot 21 more times than the Trojans.
Colby finishes 7-24. Seward is 19-12 and advances to play in the Region 6 quarterfinals at Coffeyville Tuesday at 7:30 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
