The Butler didn’t do it, Seward Does!

KSCB News - January 30, 2011 8:41 am

While the two teams did it in very different ways, the Seward County Lady Saints and Saints closed the first half of Jayhawk West Conference play with wins over the Butler Grizzlies Saturday night in the Greenhouse. The Lady Saints trailed most of the game and had to go to overtime before knocking off the conference leading Grizzlies 55-47 thanks to a 17 point 8 rebound night from Mariah Lee and a 10 point 7 rebound game from Ashlynn Knoll including a huge three point play in the final minute of regulation to send the game to the extra frame. The win moves Seward to 5-3 in the Jayhawk West and 15-7 overall on the season. The Saints would make things a little bit easier on themselves, blowing the defending Region VI Champs out of the water in the first half on their way to a 49-28 halftime lead before calling off the dogs and playing even with them in the second half en route to an easy 86-65 win. In the victory for the Saints, Marky Nolen notched his 5th straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Daveon Boardingham scored a career high 18 including a highlight reel alley-oop dunk from Jeremy Jones to put the icing on the cake late in the second half. The Saints wrap up the first half of conference action on top of things all by themselves at 7-1 and move their impressive overall mark to 19-3 on the season. The win sets up a showdown for both teams in the Greenhouse Wednesday night when Hutchinson comes to town to renew the two teams rivalries.
