The Redskin baseball team finished their Tuesday night with a downer. After a 14-2 run rule win in game one, Liberal lost 3-2 in game two as the Holcomb Longhorns scored two in the bottom of the seventh for a walk off in Holcomb.
In game one, it was scoreless until Liberal scored seven in the top of the fourth. The Redskins added two in the fifth and five in the sixth. Liberal out-hit Holcomb 10-3 and won despite six errors. Blayden Betts was 3-4 with a home run, a triple, three RBI’s, and two runs. Bren Kappelmann was 2-4 with two RBI’s and a double. Eathan Hernandez was 2-4 with a double and two runs. Austin Dodge hit a triple and scored two runs. Kye Morris pitched five shutout innings allowing one hit with seven strikeouts and four walks.
In game two, the faucet turned off the the Redskin offense. Holcomb out-hit LHS 6-3. Both teams had one error. The Redskins scored one in the first. The Longhorns plated a second inning run. LHS scored in the fourth and had multiple opportunities to add to the lead but could not. Holcomb scored two in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Kale Miller went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing one run with four strikeouts and no walks. Bentlee Betts pitched 2 and 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
Liberal is 2-2 and Holcomb is 2-0. LHS plays at Hugoton Thursday at 4pm.
