Skins Golf Battles Tough Conditions at Newton

Brock Kappelmann - April 15, 2022 3:58 pm

LHS golf team played at Newton Thursday.  Here’s the wrap up from coach Nick Rotolo.

Nick Rotolo

Another challenging course with big, fast, and undulated greens with lots of penalty areas got the best of us. The boys battled and hit a lot of good shots, but let too many shots get away from them off the tee box which led to a lot of additional strokes. We also hit a lot of greens but would hit the part and would leave us with some very challenging 75’+ putts crossing multiple different slopes. It is something I have to figure out how to replicate in practice to help these kids be more successful. They are doing everything asked of them but these first two courses are just completely different style than we practice on. These first two courses should probably be two of the tougher courses on our schedule and will help prepare us for the regional tournament. The team finished 14 out of 16 teams. Maize South shot 317 to finish first. We shot a team score of 446 which was way off of our team score goal. We as a team wanted to improve on our 396 that we about last week. Goal was to shoot a lower team score each week. We also had two guys make their varsity debut and both was nervous early on and started to settle down on the back 9.

Individual scores

T56 Carson Gilmore – 103
T75 Logan Miller – 111
Ryan Mein
85 Tacoma Gilmore – 120
T89 Aden Freeland – 123
92 Joe Haskell – 124

We look forward to going to Hays on Monday for our first WAC tournament and Dodge on Thursday.
