Seward Women 6th Following Second Round

TYLER, TEXAS – After going undefeated in day one of the NJCAA National Tournament, the Lady Saints picked up another 8 wins and 11.5 points to now only trail first place by 3.5 points heading into the Quarterfinals on Monday.

The day started with a win from Polya Nikolova in the #2 Singles Draw over Guadalupe Tocci [6] of Jones College winning 6-4, 6-1. Shortly after Nikolova’s win came the first defeat of the tournament for the Lady Saints as Emma Petton dropped a 3-set thriller to Luciana Braga [5] of Barton CC with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 3-6. Seward County was able to finish their singles competition on a high note however with three straight victories in the #3, #4 and #5 Single Draws from Ana Serrano, Alejandra Ramirez and Camila Corrales, respectively who all advance to the quarterfinal round of the National Tournament.

Following their singles matches the Lady Saints caught fire early and used their momentum to sweep all three of their doubles matches with all three pairings qualifying for the Quarterfinals. Emma Petton and Polya Nikolova defeated a pairing from Barton CC while Alejandra Ramirez and Ana Serrano also picked up a win over a pairing from Iowa Central CC. The last doubles victory came from Lara Torres and Otoha Mogi who also took down a pairing from conference rival Barton CC.

The last victory of the day came in the back draw of the #6 Flight as Lara Torres redeemed herself on day two of the National Tournament by capturing a victory over Anne Van Binsberger of Wallace State.
