Seward Softball Opens Conference Play with Wins

It’s a 2-0 start in the Jayhawk Conference for the Seward softball team.  The Saints topped the visiting Pratt Beavers 8-0 and 9-1 Wednesday afternoon at French Family Field.  It was sunny and 60 degrees with very little wind.

In game one, SCCC out-hit Pratt 13-2.  Seward scored one in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth, and three in the fifth for the run rule.  Taylor Harding, Emily Lane, Mya Van Der Mey, and Ella Doxey had two hits a piece.  Van Der Mey hit a double and drove home three runs.  Grace Horne pitched the distance for the win.

In game two, Seward used a six run third inning to blow the game wide open and take a 7-0 lead.  The Saints scored another run in the fifth for the run rule.  SCCC out-hit Pratt 11-5.  Taylor Harding was 3-3 with two runs.  Malaya Garcia, and Mya Van Der Mey had two hits a piece.  Van Der Mey drove home three runs.  Liberty Sharman pitched five shutout innings with six strikeouts and two walks.

Pratt is 3-13 overall and 0-2 in the Jayhawk.  Seward is 8-10 overall and 2-0 in the Jayhawk.  Seward plays at Hutchinson Saturday at 1pm.
