Seward Sizzles in the Second Half

The Seward Lady Saints are 2-0 in the Jayhawk Conference.  But it took some doing against the visiting Colby Lady Trojans Saturday afternoon in the Green House.  Colby, playing without two injured starters, led 30-13 in the second quarter.  But Seward got off the deck and won comfortably 72-62.

Colby made 8-14 three pointers in the first half leading 19-11 after one and extending leads of 27-11 and 30-13 before a Seward run of 16-5 made the score 35-29 Colby at halftime.  The Lady Saints finally took the lead at 45-43 with 2:35 remaining in the third.  Colby lead 50-48 after three.  The Lady Saints dominated the fourth quarter 24-12 and led by as many as 11 (71-60) on the way to the win.

The Lady Saints shot 49 percent from the field going 8-19 from three and making 18-19 free throws for 95 percent.  Colby shot 47 percent making 9-18 from three point land and 3-5 at the foul line.  Seward out-rebounded Colby 29-24.  Both teams had 19 turnovers.

Avery Marchino had another huge game with 26 points and five rebounds in the win.  RaMya Kennedy had 10 points and Kimora Fagan scored 10 in the win.  A’Neya Chamber pulled down nine rebounds.

Colby is 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the Jayhawk.  Seward is 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Jayhawk for the first time since the 2020-21 season.  Seward hosts #24 Coffeyville Tuesday night at 6pm in the Green House with Saints Shoot-around at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3.  Pepsi is the buyout sponsor and tickets are available at the college and at the Saints Bookstore.
