ENID, OKLA. – The Seward County Lady Saints Softball team could not overcome early deficits as they drop two games against Northern Oklahoma – Enid in an early non-conference battle. Seward County lost the first game 6-2 and then dropped the second game 9-6.  The Lady Saints fall to 1-3 overall as they prepare for road games at Seminole State College next week.

In Game 1, Enid jumped to an early 3-0 lead behind a 2-run home run by Megan Lee.  In the top of the 2nd, the Lady Saints packed the bases behind singles from AJ Luna and Alyssah Pontoja but were unable to capitalize after Macy Cesa-Spearman grounded out to third for the 3rd out.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Enid added 3 more runs to take a 6-0 lead.  The Lady Saints were able to fight back starting in the top of the 5th.  Cesa-Spearman was able to draw a walk as the leadoff batter before Jacy Oakley reached an error by the third baseman.  Oakley was able to force things to generate offense.  Oakley stole 2nd which allowed Spearman to score after a throwing error by the catcher.  Oakley advanced to third on the error.  Ayanna Clemons was able to drive in the 2nd run to bring the Lady Saints within four runs at 6-2.

However, the Lady Saints were unable to generate another hit the rest of the way.  For Enid, Madison Gabeau pitched 7 innings to earn the win.  For Seward County, Alyssah Pontoja pitched 6 innings to take the loss. Ayanna Clemons led the offense with 1 hit and 1 RBI.  Jacie Oakley added two stolen bases to give her 4 on the year.

Game 2 Seward County came ready to play, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st.  After two quick outs, Jaci Oakley was able to reach an error.  Jacie Scott followed with an RBI double to left field.  After a Clemons walk, Ashley Low notched her first RBI of the season with a single to right field, scoring Scott and pushing Clemons to third.  With Reagan Watt up to bat, Low was able to steal 2nd which allowed Clemons to score the 3rd run of the inning.

Both teams worked around runners to put up zeros on the board until Enid was able to break loose in the bottom of the 2nd.  The rally began after the Jets loaded the bases behind a walk and an error. Enid was able to score their run on another error that also left the bases loaded.  After back-to-back singles that scored a run each, Enid finished their scoring in the inning with a 2-run double that gave Enid the 5-3 lead.

The Lady Saints were able to rebound in the top of the 3rd. After a leadoff double by Jaci Oakley, Clemons smacked a line-drive 2-run home run to left field to tie the game at 5.  However, Enid was able to take the lead they needed to win behind 3 straight doubles in the bottom of the 4th, taking an 8-5 lead.  Seward County was able to add 1 final run in the top of the 7th with a sacrifice fly by Scott that scored Jacy Oakley.

For the game, Hannah Schulman took the loss on the mound, pitching 4 innings, but only giving up 3 earned runs.  Oakley led the middle of the lineup offensive surge going 2-3 with 3 runs.  Jacie Scott and Ayanna Clemons each added two RBI’s. Reagan Watt making her first start and appearance of the year also notched her first hit of the year.
