On April 19, 2026, at approximately 7:48 a.m., the Seward County Sheriff’s Office and Seward County Rural Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Road G and Road 11 in response to a report of black smoke. First responders arrived on scene at approximately 8:01 a.m. and located a pickup truck fully engulfed in flames, along with an active grass fire. Seward County Rural Fire personnel extinguished both fires.

The driver, a 63-year-old male and the sole occupant of the vehicle, was located deceased inside the truck.

Following the initial response, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office were notified and responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the fire is not suspicious in nature. The investigation remains ongoing; however, no foul play is suspected at this time.
