For the first time since 2010, the girls basketball team is back in the Class B state tournament. It only took a major upset Saturday night.

Forgan, unranked, upset No. 1 Lomega 46-34 to win an area championship.

“I think it’s just really big for our kids,” Forgan coach Travis Smalts said. “They’ve been really close for a long time and had a lot of things out of their control with injures that has caused them to not make it.”

Smalts said Forgan (18-8) handled Lomega’s heavy pressure on defense, avoiding turnovers to maintain control.

Now, his team gets a chance at the state tournament.
