Liberal Fire Department Launches Bucket Brigade

The Liberal Fire Department, in partnership with the Kansas Fire Marshal and American Pyrotechnics Safety & Education Foundation (APSEF), has launched the Bucket Brigade program, a targeted fire prevention initiative designed to reduce fires caused by improper fireworks disposal following Independence Day celebrations.
The Bucket Brigade pay homage to a time when neighbors assisted firefighters by passing buckets to extinguish fires. We would like to than our community partners Black Hills Energy, C.F. Fire & Life Safety, and Fastenal in their support to make this possible.
We have 200 buckets available to Liberal residents. They can come to the North Fire station from 08:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday, starting Tuesday June 23, limit 1 per household.
We would also like all to remember these steps:
1. Fill the bucket with water.
2. Soak used fireworks in water overnight.
3. Dispose of WET fireworks in trash.
4. Store trash receptacles at least 10 ft. from structures, such as homes, sheds, and fences.
