The City of Liberal will begin its annual street surface maintenance project on Monday, June 29, 2026. Chip seal will be applied to city-owned roadways located in Southwest Liberal. The overall project is expected to be completed within 14 days, weather permitting.

Residents in affected neighborhoods are reminded to keep vehicles off the streets and avoid sending excess water into the roadway until their street has been completed. Vehicles found in the project area will be towed at the owner’s expense in order to avoid delays to the chip seal process.

There will be no roadway closures and drivers are asked to give crews plenty of space to work safely. Once the chip seal has been properly worked into the roadway surface, pavement markings and school crosswalk zones will be reapplied to streets.

STREETS INCLUDED: Western Ave. to Kansas Ave. from 2nd Street to South Street.
