Seward County head basketball coach Bryan Zollinger said after the game that his team played with heavy hearts Saturday night in their 85-67 win over Colby. Seward guard Robert Sigala didn’t make the trip to Colby after his 13 year old brother passed away Friday losing a short bout with cancer. Sigala wasn’t in Colby but was on his teamates’ minds. Many wore red wrist bands before the game to remember their teamates’ little brother. Seward improves to 19-6 overall and 6-5 in the Jayhawk West and sits alone in fourth place. Colby who had won two straight home games over Hutch and Cloud led 20-13 in the first half behinds 6′ post Shamar Acuay who would scored 30 points and grab nine rebounds. The Saints would take a 34-28 lead into the lockeroom at halftime. Seward’s own mighty mite Marquez Patterson led the Saints with a career high 27 points. Marcus James added 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Thijin Moses popped in 13 and Tony Smith added 12. Seward out-rebounded their first Jayhawk West opponent 32-31. Colby falls to 5-20 overall and 3-8 in the Jayhawk West. The Saints go to Pratt to play the Beavers Wednesday night at 8 pm in Lesh Arena. The game will air on B107.5 and kscb.net.
