The Seward County Saints sent their homecoming crowd home happy Saturday afternoon and evening in the Green House. Seward erased a 10 point deficit to knock off the visiting Cowley Tigers 79-66. The Saints finished the game on a 29-16 run to win it.
Cowley led 10-6 at the under 16 media timeout. The Tigers led 16-9 with 11:43 to play. Cowley led 35-27 but the Saints cut the lead to 37-33 at the half. Cowley took a 50-40 lead but a 7-0 Saints run cut the lead to 50-47 with 11:52 to play. The Saints trailed 62-61 with 4:26 remaining. CC took a 63-62 lead with four minutes left. Brevyn Coleman hit a left elbow jumper for the 67-65 with 2:30 remaining. RJ McKinnie banked in a right wing three to make it 70-66 with 1:45 remaining. The Saints extended their lead from there as they knocked down free throws to close it out.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is RJ McKinnie with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Lyna Brooks Jr. scored 16. Lucas N’Gombo had 13 points.
Seward shot 55 percent with 6-17 shooting from three point range. SCCC was 25-39 from the foul line. Cowley shot 35 percent from the field and went 7-22 from the three point line and 23-35 from the free throw line. The Saints led points in the paint 34-20.
Cowley is 18-11 overall and 13-10 in the Jayhawk. Seward is 18-11 overall and 13-10 in the Jayhawk. Seward sweeps the season series. The Saints hosts Dodge City for Sophomore Night Wednesday night at 8pm on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
