Saints Sweep 2nd Place Dodge City

The Seward County Saints traveled to Dodge City and swept the second place Dodge City Conquistadors Thursday afternoon and evening at Cavalier Field in Dodge City.  The Saints won 5-2 and 14-11.   The Saints have won seven in a row.

In game one, with the wind howling in at up to 40 miles per hour, the Saints scored two in the third.  Cameron Cartwright singled.  Ranse Radtke roped an RBI triple down the line in right.  Jaxson Gregg grounded out to score Radtke.  The Saints scored one in the fourth.  Todd Baffa sliced a double to right center.  Jarron Wilcox hit what turned out to be a sac fly when the DC3 shortstop fell down on the catch after staggering in the wind.  Connor Cox tripled off the wall in right center to lead off the fifth.  He scored on Ranse Radtke’s ground out for the 4-0 lead.  DC3 scored two in the sixth.  SCCC tacked on a run in the seventh.  Trenton Rowan singled home Jarron Wilcox.  Brian Luna improved to 8-2 going five innings.  TJ Newman nailed down hit third save working two scoreless innings.  The Saints out-hit the Conqs 8-5.  There were no errors.

In game two, the wind lessened a bit and the offense picked up.  The Saints scored three in the first.  Cameron Cartwright singled.  Jaxson Gregg doubled him home.  Elijah Bear ripped an RBI double down the right field line.  Todd Baffa doubled home Bear for the three runs on four hits and three doubles.   Dodge City scored one in the first.  The Saints scored in the third when Elijah Bear hit a towering homer to right center for his 14th round tripper of the season.  The Saints poured in four in the fourth for the 8-1 lead.  Connor Cox doubled to lead off the inning.  Cameron Cartwright doubled him home.  Todd Baffa doubled home three runs with a drive to left center.  The Conqs scored two in the fourth to make it 8-3.  The Saints scored in the fifth to lead 9-3.  It was an unearned run without a hit.  DC3 scored an unearned run in the fifth to make it 9-4.  Seward plated one in the sixth to lead 10-4.  Jaxson Gregg doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a Tristan Curless single.  Dodge City scored five unanswered runs in the sixth after a Saints error with two outs and the bases empty.  That made the scored 10-9.  The Saints answered with three in the seventh.  Cameron Cartwright singled home two and Elijah Bear added an RBI single for the 13-9 lead.  SCCC made it 14-9 wit ha run in the eighth.  Tristan Curless doubled to lead off the eighth.  An error allowed the run to score.  Dodge plated two in the eighth to make it 14-11. Aidan Moore gave the Saints a quality start going 5 and 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs.  Ryuga Matsumara worked 1 and 1/3 scoreless for the save.  Tristan Curless was 4-5.  Cameron Cartwright, Todd Baffa, and Elijah Bear added three hits and three RBI’s a piece.   Seward out-hit DC3 15-14.  Dodge had five errors and SCCC had four.

Dodge City falls to 24-22 overall and 14-8 in the Jayhawk West.  The Saints are 28-21 overall and 17-9 in the Jayhawk West.   The same two teams play Saturday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
