The Saints are hot again. On a day with temperatures in the upper 90’s, the Saints took two to sweep a four game series over the Pratt Beavers 9-3 and 8-7 on a hot day Saturday afternoon and evening at Stanion Field in Pratt.
Pratt plated a run in the second after a hit and an error. The Saints broke through with four in the top of the fifth. Grant Cox and Jacob Urias singled to lead off the inning. Diego Munoz laid down a sac bunt. Jhett Huffman’s roller went past the PCC third baseman for an error scoring two. Isai Santaella lined a two run home run over the wall in left center for his eighth home run of the season and a 4-1 lead. Pratt scored a run in the bottom of the inning after two walks and a hit batter. But Ashton Creighton came on in relief and recorded two outs to preserve a 4-2 lead. The Saints scored four in the sixth for an 8-2 lead. With a runner on, Jacob Urias ripped a double to left center. Diego Munoz bounced a two RBI single through the drawn in infield for a 6-2 lead. Juan Alvarez ripped a sacrifice fly to left and Hayden Ramage roped a double over the left fielder for the 8-2 lead. Pratt scored run in the sixth to make it 8-3. David Brabb and Grant Cox singled to lead off the seventh. Jhett Huffman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the 9-3 lead. The Saints out-hit the Beavers 14-6. Grant Cox was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 3-4. Isai Santaella, Jacob Urias, and Hayden Ramage had two hits a piece. Cosme Vera worked 4 and 1/3 innings allowing one earned run. Ashton Creighton went 2 and 2/3 scoreless.
In game two, the Saints scored three in the second. David Brabb doubled down the left field line. Grant Cox singled and Jacob Urias singled home a run. Mason Gilbert and Isaia Santaella added an RBI singles. Seward scored two more in the third to lead 5-0. Diego Munoz rifled an RBI single to left. Seward scored another run when Pratt failed to field an infield pop up. Pratt scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-2 game. The Saints scored three in the seventh. Grant Cox tripled off the wall in right and scored on a Jacob Urias double to left. Urias scored on a wild pitch. Mason Gilbert launched a towering home run to left center for an 8-2 lead. Pratt hit two home runs and scored three runs on five hits in the seventh to cut the SCCC lead to 8-5. Pratt scored two in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second and two outs. But Braden Whipple came on for the game clinching strikeout and his third save of the season. Beau Lang worked 6 and 2/3 innings for the Saints. Cooper Turner went two innings and did not allow an earned run. Isai Santaella was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 3-5. Jacob Urias added three hits. Grant Cox had two hits and a triple giving him nine hits for the series. Mason Gilbert added two hits and two RBI’s.
Pratt is 5-23 overall and 0-12 in the Jayhawk West. Seward is 15-18 and 7-1 in the Jayhawk West. Seward sweeps Pratt for a second straight season. The Saints play at Enid Tuesday at 2pm.
