The Seward County Saints have successfully bounced back. After road losses at Colby and Coffeyville earlier in the week, the Saints topped the Hutchinson Blue Dragons 73-57 Saturday afternoon and evening in the Green House. It’s Seward’s first home win over Hutchinson since 2019. It’s also Seward’s first regular season sweep since 2019.
Seward led 9-7 at the first media time out. The Saints took a 23-12 lead with 10:29 to play. The Saints led 28-17 with 3:09 remaining. The Saints led 28-17 with 3:20 to play in the half before leading 30-23 at halftime. The Saints built a 41-29 lead with 14:53 to play. SCCC built a 49-29 lead with 10:55 to play.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Korbin Dowdell with 17 points of 6-9 shooting with five assists and no turnovers and two steals. Antonio Williams Jr. scored 22 points with five rebounds. Lucas N’Gombo scored 13 point and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Saints shot 45 percent from the field while making 41 percent of their 3’s (12-29). SCCC was 15-22 from the foul line. The Blue Dragons shot 46 percent from the field making 7-21 from three and going 8-9 from the foul line. The Saints out rebounded the Dragons 31-24. The Saints led points off turnovers 15-9.
Hutchinson is 10-12 overall and 5-11 in the Jayhawk. It’s the first time they have lost six in a row since 1953. The Saints are 15-7 overall and 10-6 in the KJCCC. Seward hosts Pratt in the Green House Wednesday night at 8pm on 1270 and 92.3 FM. BSN is the game sponsor and admission is free.
