Saints Settle for Split in Pratt

The Seward County Saints and Pratt Beavers split a double header Saturday at Stanion Field in Pratt. The Saints lost an opportunity to gain valuable ground in the Jayhawk West. The Saints won a rugged game one 11-5 before Pratt took game two 5-4.

JB Olson (4-3) struck out nine in a complete game win. He did not allow an earned run. Seward scored two in the first when Brandon Urquizo singled home a run and a second run scored on an error. Pratt scored three in the bottom of the inning. Seward took a 5-3 lead in the fifth when Justin Graff-Rowe blasted a three run homer over the left field foul pole. The Beavers tied the game at five in the bottom of the inning. The Saints scored six in the sixth. Urquizo bunted and went to third on a three base error. Logan Nethercot doubled him home when the left fielder mis judged the ball. Brandon Rix singled home a run to make it 7-5. Graff-Rowe singled home a run for his fourth RBI. Chad Kennedy laced a line drive to right center to score two. Jared Ledbetter hit a sacrifice fly to make it 11-5.

The a Saints out hit the Beavers 11-5 while Pratt committed four errors and SC had two.

Seward only mustered five hits in game two as Pratt banged out 11 hits against Seward starter Hayden Howard. Both teams had three errors as the Saints struggled with Pratt’s bunting game much of the day. Pratt scored two in the third before the Saints struck for three in the sixth. Brent Williams tripled to lead off the inning and scored on Rix’s ground out. Graff-Rowe doubled and a run scored on an errant PCC throw which ended up in the Seward dugout. Dillon Drury singled home a run to make it 3-2. Pratt quickly tied it in the bottom of the inning and scored two more in the seventh. Williams singled home a run in the ninth. Howard pitched the distance allowing three earned runs, striking out five without a walk.

seward is 11-16 and 7-7 in the Jayhawk West while Pratt is 10-13 overall and 3-7. The same two teams meet Sunday at o1:00 in Prattt with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 and kscbnews.net. Only game one will be on 1270 due to KU game. Both games Sunday will be on kscbnews.net.
