Saints Return the Favor in Blowout Win

One day after a 29-2 loss, the Seward County Saints responded with a 20-3 win over the Coffeyville Red Ravens Saturday afternoon at Brent Gould Field.  Seward advances to the 8 team double elimination portion of the Region 6 Tournament for the first time since 2023.  Seward wins the series with Coffeyville 2-1.

The Red Ravens scored a run in the first.  Seward countered with three in the second with two outs.  After a dropped fly ball in right tied the game, Jhett Huffman slammed a two run home run to left for the 3-1 lead.  After the Red Ravens scored in the third to make it 3-2, the Saints scored five in the third with two outs.  Grant Cox walked and Blaine Chancy doubled down the first baseline.  Jacob Urias singled home a run.  Diego Munoz hit a pop fly RBI double to right to make it 5-2.  Mason Gilbert launched a three run home run to the trees in left for the 8-2 lead.  SCCC put up seven in the fourth.  Gus Eyler and Isai Santaella walked.  Juan Alvarez his a three run home run off the scoreboard in left for the 11-2 lead.  Grant Cox and Blaine Chancy singled and Jacob Urias provided an RBI single.  Diego Munoz singled.  Mason Gilbert walked with the bases loaded.  Isai Santaella walked with the bases loaded.  Juan Alvarez singled home a run to lead 15-2.  Coffeyville scored a run in the fifth to make it 15-3.  Seward scored five in the fifth.  Jhett Huffman singled home a run.  Isai Santaella ripped a grand slam over the wall in left.

The Saints scored 17 of their 20 runs with two outs.  Blaine Chancy and Jacob Urias had three hits and three runs a piece.  Isai Santaella, Juan Alvarez, Diego Munoz, and Jhett Huffman had two hits a  piece.  Santaella drove home five runs for the second time in the series.  Alvarez  and Gilbert drove home four.  Huffman drove home three and scored two.  Cosme Vera Jr. pitched 4 and 1/3 innings allowing three runs.  Cooper Turner went 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Saints are 25-36 and finish 17-17 at home.  Coffeyville finishes 27-30.  The Saints play #1 Johnson Wednesday afternoon at 4pm at Eck Stadium in Wichita on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
