Saints Remain Undefeated in Non Conference

Brock Kappelmann - October 12, 2023 6:20 am

After a big conference win this past Saturday at home against Garden City, the Seward County Saints men’s soccer team went out west towards Lamar to wrap up their non-conference schedule in their inaugural season and were able to remain undefeated against non-conference opponents with a 5-0-1 record after beating the Lopes 3-1.

Early in the first 30:00 of the half was physical contest to find a path to put a score on the board first and it was Lamar who was able to connect first to take a 1-0 lead until the Saints found their own momentum and never looked back as Javier Ruchelli Alvarez found Alexander Stevens-Lee for Seward County’s first goal at the 15:00 minute mark to tie it up 1-1 heading into halftime.

The second half was all SCCC as they held possession through most of the half to put Lamar on the ropes when Josh Rimmer was able to drop a dime off a corner kick to help Stevens-Lee score his second goal of the afternoon to put the Saints ahead 2-1 with 26:55 remaining in the game. A penalty by the Lopes put Zain Beg at the line for a penalty kick which he sunk in to increase the Seward County lead to 3-1 and that was where the score finished at to secure the win for the Saints in their final non-conference matchup of the season.

Seward County now improves to 7-6-2 on their inaugural season in 2023 with an undefeated record in non-conference action at 5-0-1. They will come back home to Liberal, Kansas for a two-game homestead as they face off against Dodge City this upcoming Sunday in a 5:00 PM kickoff on Redskin Field.
