Saints Rally for a Split at Colby

The Seward County Saints and Colby Trojans split a pair of games Saturday afternoon and evening at Quagliano Field in Colby.  The Trojans won game one 15-11 and SCCC won game two 14-10.  The Saints rallied from 10-5 down in game two with two outs in the eighth.

Colby scored two in the second.  The Saints scored four in the third.  Diego Munoz doubled off the wall in center.  Jhett Huffman was hit by a pitch.  Juan Alvarez slapped a single to right for Seward’s first run.  Huffman scored on a wild pitch.  Hayden Ramage reached on a dropped fly ball in right to score a run.  Blaine Chancy singled home a run for the 4-2 lead.  The Trojans answered with six runs on six hits in the bottom of the third.  The Saints scored in the fourth.  Grant Cox was hit by a pitch.  Jacob Urias singled to left for runners at the corners with no out.  The Saints grounded into a double play to score a run.  Colby scored an unearned run in the fourth to lead 9-5.  The Saints scored four in the fifth to tie it.  Isai Santaella singled.  With one out Hayden Ramage singled.  Hayden Ramage was hit by a pitch.  David Brabb singled home two.  Grant Cox singled home a run.  Jacob Urias doubled home a run to tie the game 9-9.  But the Trojans plated six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth.  Juan Alvarez doubled and Hayden Ramage line a two run home run to right to make it 15-11.  Colby out-hit Seward 18-11.  Seward had two errors and Colby had one.  Hayden Ramage and Jacob Urias had two hits a piece.

In game two, Isai Santaella launched a towering home run over the center field wall in the third for the 1-0 lead.  The Trojans tied the game in the bottom of the third.  The Trojans scored three runs on three hits in the fourth.  Colby added two more in the fifth to lead 6-1.  Seward scored four in the sixth.  Emery Cairns doubled home a run.  Mason Gilbert singled home two.  Juan Alvarez reached on a fielder’s choice to make it 6-5.  The Trojans responded by scoring three in the bottom of the sixth to lead 9-5.  Colby scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to lead 10-5.  Seward trailed 10-5 with two outs in the eighth before mounting a rally.  Blaine Chancy singled home two.  Grant Cox lifted a three run game tying home run to right.  Jacob Urias doubled and Emery Cairns doubled home a run for an 11-10 lead.  Cairns was injured trying to stretch a double into a triple.  Seward added three insurance runs in the ninth.  Isai Santaella hit a two run home run to right center and Juan Alvarez made it back to back home runs for a 14-10 lead.  Bo Lang pitched 4 and 1/3 allowing 3 earned runs with the wind howling out.  Trajan Chavez pitched three scoreless innings for the win.  He had four strikeouts and one walk.  He was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game.  Blaine Chancy was 3-5 with two RBI’s and two runs.  Isai Santaella was 2-6 with two home runs and three RBI’s.  Juan Alvarez was 2-6 with a home run.

Colby is 12-23 overall and 5-15 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward is 19-23 overall and 11-5 in the Jayhawk West.  The Saints play at Dodge City Thursday with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 127o and 92.3 FM.
