Saints Open Baseball Season at Weatherford

WEATHERFORD, Tex.- To open the season the Seward County Community College baseball program falls to Weatherford College 3-2 and 10-0 in a doubleheader on Friday. In the two seven-inning games the Saints had a total of 10 hits and two runs on the day.

In the first game of the day, the Saints had Sam Berberich on the mound and only gave up one earned run on one hit in his five innings. The Seward led 2-1 after the top of the fifth inning after with KP Werner scoring on a passed ball. Werner led the Saints from the plate with a 2-4 outing and scored once. Saints only allowed one earned run for the game.

The Coyotes responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie things at two. In extra innings, the Coyotes Dixon hit a double to score Weil from second base and gave Weatherford a walk-off win. Braden Boisvert got the loss for the Saints and Hickey got the win for the Coyotes.

Seward County looked to bounce back from the loss but in game two could not answer Weatherford’s offensive power. Dylan Day started for the Saints and gave up seven earned runs, on seven hits and threw for two and third innings. Colt Bartling was the relief pitcher and had zero earned runs on one and two-thirds innings pitched. A 10 run rule was called after the top of the fifth inning as Weatherford kept the Saints scoreless.

Seward County will look to get their first win of the season tomorrow in Weatherford with their first game against the Coyotes at 11 am, followed by Navarro College at 1 pm. For the complete gameday information and more go to sewardsaints.com.
