Saints Hold Off Ravens for Game One Win

The Seward County Saints and Coffeyville Red Ravens played for the first time since 2015 Thursday afternoon and evening a Brent Gould Field.  Coffeyville made their first trip to Liberal since 2012.  The Saints built leads of 6-1 and 10-3 and held on to beat Coffeyville 10-8 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Seward scored two in the first when Grant Cox slugged a two run home run to right center.  Coffeyville scored a run in the second.  Cox hit a two out RBI single to right in the 3rd for the 3-1 lead.  Jacob Urias walked with the bases loaded for the 4-1 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth, Jorge Tunon and Jhett Huffman singled.  Isai Santaella rolled a two RBI single up the middle for the 6-1 lead.  The Ravens scored two in the fifth to make it 6-3.  Hayden Ramage lined a home run to center in the fifth for the 7-3 lead.  Isai Santaella hit a three RBI double off the wall in left for the 10-3 lead in the fifth.  The Ravens rallied with one in the sixth and four in the eighth.

Seward out-hit Coffeyville 10-8.  Michael Lujan pitched five innings striking out eight and walking two.  He allowed three runs.  Brooks Kappelmann pitched 1 and 2/3 scoreless with two strikeouts for the save.  Grant Cox was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 3-5 with three RBI’s and two runs.  Isai Santaella was 2-4 with five RBI’s.

Coffeyville is 26-29.  Seward is 24-35.  The same two teams meet in game two Friday at 1pm with pre-game at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
