After a split on Friday, the Seward County Saints dropped a pair of one run games against the Redlands Cougars in El Reno Saturday afternoon. Redlands won 5-4 and 12-11. The Saints lost two games in the series in walk off fashion.
In game one, the Saints only mustered four runs on five hits. Redlands had eight hits. The Cougars led 4-1 until the Saints scored three in the sixth to tie it. Redlands scored a run in the bottom of the sixth for the lead. Cosme Vera started the game going three innings allowing three runs. Cross Durham pitched three strong innings in relief allowing one run. Grant Cox had a double in the loss.
In game two, the Saints scored three in the first before Redlands plated two. Redlands scored four in the bottom of the third to lead 6-3. The Saints put up six in the fifth to lead 9-6. Redlands scored one a piece in the sixth and seventh to make it 9-8. SCCC scored two in the eighth to lead 11-8. But the Saints couldn’t hold the lead as Redlands scored three in the bottom of the eighth to tie it and one in the ninth to win it. Seward out-hit Redlands 11-10. SCCC had four errors and Redlands had three. Isai Santaella hit a home run. Juan Alvarez, Grant Cox, and Mason Gilbert had two hits a piece. Grant Cox had three RBI’s. Beau Lang worked 5 and 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts and two walks.
The Saints are 11-17 and host McCook Monday at 2pm.
