The Seward County Saints returned the favor. After dropping two at Garden City on Thursday, the Saints swept the visiting Garden City Broncbusters 7-4 and 13-7. Sunday afternoon and evening at Brent Gould Field in Liberal.
The Saints won game one 7-4. Seward rallied to erase a 4-0 deficit. Garden City scored two in the first and two in the third to lead 4-0. The Saints scored three in the fourth to make it 4-3. Jacob Urias and Jhett Huffman singled. With two outs, Juan Alvarez whistled a two RBI double to right center. The Saints scored again on an error when the Busters dropped a ball in center. Blaine Chancy ripped a three RBI triple to right field in the bottom of the sixth for the 6-4 lead. Jhett Huffman added a two out RBI single for the 7-4 lead. Huffman was 2-3. Ashton Creighton got the win and was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going four shutout innings.
In game two, the Saints struck for four in the first. Grant Cox singled home a run. Ryan Todd found the gap in right center to double home two runs. In the second, Jhett Huffman walked and Isai Santaella singled. Hayden Ramage grounded to short to drive home a run for a 5-0 lead. Garden City wacked two home runs and a double on the way to a four run third to make it 5-4. The Broncbusters plated a fifth inning run to tie the game 5-5. David Brabb tripled to lead off the fifth and scored on a Grant Cox ground out for the 6-5 lead. The Saints scored two in the sixth to lead 8-5. Isai Santaella singled and stole second. Hayden Ramage ripped a double off the wall in center. David Brabb singled home a run. Grant Cox grounded out but drove home the run to make it 8-5. Garden City loaded the bases with one out in the eighth but Trajan Chavez came on in relief and got out of the jam. The Saints out-hit the Busters 13-8. Isai Santaella was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game with a 4-5 game. David Brabb was 3-4 with three runs and two RBI’s. Ryan Todd was 2-5 with three RBI’s. Bo Lang pitched six innings. Cooper Turner went 1 and 2/3 with no earned runs.
Garden City falls to 13-20 overall and 6-10 in the Jayhawk West. Seward is 17-21 overall and 9-3 in the Jayhawk West. The Saints host Colby Thursday at 1pm with pre-game at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
