Redskins Work Late Friday Night to Sweep Boomers

The Liberal Redskins won a pair of lengthy games over the Woodward Boomers Friday night at the National Beef Sports Complex.  The Skins swept Woodward 14-5 and 16-6.  Game two ended at 9:51.

Game one went 2.5 hours.  The Redskins scored eight in the first after Woodward scored one.  Both teams scored in the second.  WHS scored in the third and LHS tallied three for the 12-3 lead.  The Boomers scored two in the fourth and LHS scored two in the sixth.  They couldn’t quite run rule the game so it went the full seven inning.  Marco Alonso launched a grand slam to left in the win.  Aidan Schwindt was 3-3 with three runs.  Brooks Kappelmann was 2-2 with four RBI’s.  Adan Mata was 2-3.  Zayden Martinez pitched three innings allowing three earned runs and Alex Schwindt worked four innings allowing two earned runs.  Woodward out-hit Liberal 11-9 but WHS had three errors and Liberal had one.

In game two, the Skins scored in the first and second innings but Woodward plated three in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth to lead the Redskins 6-2 going to the bottom of the fourth.  That’s when the Skins scored 10 runs to lead 12-6.  Liberal had a big offensive inning plus Woodward missed several infield pop ups under the lights.  The Redskins scored four in the fifth to end the game in a run rule 16-6.  Aidan Schwindt and Zayden Martinez were 3-4.  Fidel Avila was 2-3 with four RBI’s.  Alex Schwindt drove home two runs.  Erek Lira pitched the first three innings.  Fidel Avila worked two innings allowing one earned run.  LHS out hit Woodward 11-4.  The Boomer made four errors and Liberal had two.

Woodward is 13-18 and Liberal is 7-3.  The Redskins play a single game at Garden City Tuesday night at 6pm at Lightner Field.  Redskin Pre-game at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
