Redskins Split with Panthers

The Liberal Redskins and Great Bend Panthers split a double header Tuesday afternoon and evening at the National Beef Sports Complex.  Great Bend won game one as the home team 4-2.  LHS dominated game two 11-6.  Game one was a make up from April 10 at Great Bend.

In game one, the Panthers plated a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Kye Morris shot an RBI single up the middle to tie the game.  Great Bend answered with three runs on two hits, two errors, and two walks in the fifth.  The Redskins rallied in the seventh.  Blayden Betts ripped an RBI double to left.  LHS loaded the bases with one out.  But the last two batters struck out to end the game. LHS struck out 11 times against Panther pitching.  Both teams had five hits and two errors.  Kye Morris was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 3-4 with an RBI.  He pitched 3 and 1/3 innings allowing one hit and one run.  Bren Kappelmann worked 1 and 2/3 allowing one earned run.  Bentlee Betts worked a scoreless inning.

In game two, Liberal scored five in the first and the second.  In the first, Great Bend hit the first three LHS batters.  Bren Kappelmann singled home a run.  Eathan Hernandez lined a sac fly to right.  Bentlee Betts grounded a two RBI single through the right side.  Elder Ramirez laid down an RBI safety squeeze bunt.  In the five run second, Blayden Betts, Bren Kappelmann, Eathan Hernandez, and Austin Dodge singled.  Dodge singled home a run.  Bentlee Betts hit a sac fly.  Evan Castillo and Kye Morris added RBI singles.  LHS had six hits in the inning.  Liberal added a run in the third.  Bren Kappelmann and Austin Dodge singled and Bentlee Betts grounded out to drive home the run.  But LHS did not score again.  The Panthers plated one in the fourth and the fifth to make it 11-2.  It got a little hairy in the seventh when GBHS scored four unearned runs and there were four walks.  Liberal out-hit Great Bend 11-4.  LHS had four errors and GBHS had two.  Bren Kappelmann was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 3-5 with three runs.  Austin Dodge was 2-3 with two runs.  Bentlee Betts drove home four runs.  Eathan Hernandez went 2 and 2/3 scoreless.  Austin Dodge worked 2 and 1/3 allowing one earned run.  Blayden Betts went the last two innings and did not allow an earned run.

Great Bend is 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the WAC.  Liberal is 9-9 and 2-4 in the WAC.  The Redskins host Hays Thursday at 2pm with Redskin Pre-game at 1:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
