Redskins Dominate Opening Meet

The Liberal boys track team got off to a great start Friday at Ulysses. The Redskins won the meet by 39 points while the LHS girls were fourth. Here are the boys team results: 1. Liberal (152) 2. Dodge City (113) 3. Garden City (98) 4. Ulysses (79) 5. Scott City (68) 6. Hugoton (31) 7. Perryton (17) The Redskins brought back seven gold medals. Isaac Gallegos and Adebayou Braimah led the way with two three golds each. Braimah won the 110 hurdles in 15 seconds and the 300 high hurdles at 40.04. Gallegos won the 400 at 51.51 and the 200 at 22.92. They combined with Alejandro Avila and Michael Sena to win the 4×400 relay at 3.32:24. Jade Cathey won the high jump at 5’8". Justin McPhail won the shot put at 47’7". Slader McVey was second in the javelin while the 4×800 relay team of Alan Grajeda, Alejandro Avila, Eric Minjarez, and Fidel Munoz were second. Cathey was third in the long jump while Cody Smith took third in the pole vault, Trenton Hammond was third in the 110 hurdles, Alan Grajeda was third in the mile, and Fidel Munoz took third in the 800.

The shorthanded LHS girls were fourth. Here are the girls standings: 1. Perryton (172) 2. Garden City (116) 3. Dodge City (109) 4. Liberal (55) 5. Hugoton (39) 6. Ulysses (36) 7. Scott City (27). Caitlin Bauer won the discus at 127 and the shot put at 39′ 2.75". Destyni Lucero took third in the 3200 while the 4×800 relay team of Destyni Lucero, Kim Francis, McKenzie Wright, and Holly Hinkle took third. Liberal hosts their own track meet Friday at Redskin Field.
