The Liberal Redskins blanked the Dodge City Red Demons 6-0 in game one of a double header Thursday afternoon at Demon Field in Dodge City. But the Red Demons took game two 18-8 for the split Thursday night.
In game one, LHS scored four in the first and didn’t look back. The Redskins added one in the fourth and one in the sixth. LHS out-hit DCHS 6-5. Dodge had three errors and Liberal had one. Skyler Hubbard pitched a gem. He went all seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Landon Martinez was 2-3. Marco Alonso had two RBI’s. Alex Schwindt hit a double.
In game two, Liberal got off to a great start with a four run first. Dodge City responded with a six run first. The Redskins plated single runs in the second and third to tie the score at 6-6. LHS took an 8-6 lead with two in the fourth. But a five run fourth gave the Demons an 11-8 lead. Dodge scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth for the run rule. Liberal out-hit DCHS 9-7. But Liberal committed four errors while Dodge City had three. Liberal walked an astounding 21 batters while Dodge City walked three. Blayden Betts was 3-3 with a double. Ethan Olmstead was 2-3. Alex Schwindt and Marco Alonso added doubles.
Dodge City is 7-13 overall and 3-8 in the WAC. Liberal is 7-16 overall and 3-7 in the WAC.
Liberal hosts Dodge City Tuesday night at about 6pm at the National Beef Sports Complex.
