Rattlers Take Two Over Colby and Ulysses

Brock Kappelmann - July 8, 2023 6:56 am

The Liberal Rattlers won a pair of ball games in Garden City’s tournament Friday morning in Dodge City.  Rain moved the games from Williams Stadium at GCCC to Dodge City’s Demon Field.  The Rattlers won the first game 11-3 over Colby and took game two 5-3 against Ulysses.  In the Colby win, Colby scored three in the first but did not score again after Rattler pitcher J. Brooks Kappelmann settled in for an eight strikeout complete game win.  In game two against Ulysses, Cade Thomas pitched 1 and 2/3 strong innings.  He was lifted to preserve him for Sunday as the tournament uses American Legion pitch count rules.  Alex Schwindt pitched 4 and 1/3 innings holding Ulysses in check.  Kappelmann had three doubles on the day.  Liberal is 11-5 and plays Akadema at 2:45 Saturday afternoon in Dodge City.  The games are again in Dodge City due to the rain.
