Football coach Trevor Powers is leaving a traditional power in Kansas for a powerhouse program in his native Oklahoma. Powers informed the Redskin football team during a meeting Tuesday morning that he would be leaving after one season as Redskin coach.
Powers led the Redskins to a 7-3 season in 2025. It was the third straight winning season for the Redskins after going 8-2 in 2023 and 7-3 in 2024. On offense LHS loses two starting offensive linemen, the school’s 2nd all time leading receiver, and their top two running backs. But they return three starting offensive linemen, their top two quarterbacks, the rest of the receiving corps, and three of their top five running backs. On defense LHS graduates one of their four starting linebackers and their starting free safety. But the Skins return their starting defensive line, three of their four starting linebackers, both corners, and their starting strong safety.
The Texhoma native led Hooker with an impressive coaching record of 80-23 over eight seasons, including a 16-7 playoff record. His Hooker teams earned multiple district titles and made deep playoff runs, including back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024.
Powers will remain at LHS for the semester and will coach the powerlifting team.
