On Monday evening USD 218 Elkhart approved to hire Gary O’Hair to be the women’s basketball coach at Elkhart High School. The District is excited to have Coach O’Hair coming back to Elkhart and guiding the Lady Wildcats next season.

After graduating from Kansas State in 1981, Elkhart native Gary O’Hair took his first job at Andale High, where he taught biology and worked as an assistant for 10 years before taking over the head coaching position at Southwestern Heights High School. O’Hair remained at Southwestern Heights for 11 years, until a position as the head coach of Andale opened up. The Elkhart alumni is a member of the Kansas Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

When you talk to Coach O’Hair about coaching at the high school level, you feel his passion and desire to mold young lives. Coach O’Hair enjoys athletics and has a burning desire to compete.

The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 3-peat of League and Tournament Championships in the High Plains League and a sub-state runner up in the 2021-2022 season.
