William M. (Bill) Dabbs

William M. (Bill) Dabbs, age 96, passed away late Friday evening, June 12, 2020, at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.

He was born May 23, 1924, at Royalton, Ilinois, the son of Chester and Pearl (McCoy) Dabbs. As a young boy he attended school in Alabama. At the age of sixteen he joined the United States Army serving from 1940 until 1945 in the European Theater of operation during World War II.

On July 14, 1946, he married Doris DeEtta Lais at Durham, Kansas. After their marriage, the couple lived in Chicago, Illinois, then l moved to Durham, and in 1948, they moved to Fowler, Kansas, where he worked for the Meade County as a superintendent of highways for many years.

He was a former member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with his HAMM radio, catching up with friends through Facebook, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by two sons, William Dabbs of Ukiah, California, and John Dabbs of Fowler; a daughter, Berry Meyer of Bela Vista, Arkansas; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris on January 12, 1993; his parents; and two brothers, Chester Dabbs and Robert Dabbs.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Fowler Cemetery, Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. In lieu of attending, friends may view the graveside services via the funeral homes Facebook page.

The family would welcome memorials to the Fowler Nursing Home in care of the funeral home.
