Wanda Lou Roberts Gantt

Joe Denoyer - October 2, 2017 8:03 am

Wanda Lou Roberts Gantt, 84, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away September 28, 2017 at Grace Living Center in Buffalo, Oklahoma.

Mom was born on farm 5 miles north of Hooker, OK on December the 26th 1932, she was the fourth of five children born to Norman Lee and Francis Louisa (Randolph) Roberts.  She always said she was born on the most anti-climactic day of the year, the day after Christmas. The Roberts family lived and worked the family farm until a hailstorm wiped out the entire wheat crop the day before harvest.  Mom said her mother had purchased enough groceries to feed the wheat harvest crew for the duration of the harvest.  Those groceries were used instead to feed the family for numerous months as the family finances were all tied up in the failed wheat crop.  As a result of the devastation, the family was forced to abandon the farm and move to town (Hooker, OK).  Mom attended school in Hooker from 1939 to 1949.  She gave her heart to the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of the Church of Christ while living there.  Mom was a deeply committed Christian her entire life and wanted above all things to be a reflection of her Lord.  Wanda Roberts was joined in marriage to Dwyatt Creel Gantt on June 18, 1949 in Perryton, TX and that union brought about four children, seven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.  Six weeks after their wedding, Dad and Mom moved to Henderson, Tennessee where Dad attended Freed-Hardman College for two years.  Nita was born when they lived there.  Mary was born in Liberal, KS, in between the last two years at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico.  After Dad graduated from University, they moved to Ephrata, Washington, where Delton was born.  Back to Oklahoma they served churches in Adams, Dill City and Muskogee, where Holly was born.

In 1960 the family along with 3 other missionary families, moved to Helsinki, Finland to work toward building churches there.  While living there the family made several trips in Europe including an historic road trip throughout Europe starting with the then communist Soviet Union and Poland in 1965.From Finland, the family moved to Memphis (Germantown) Tennessee where Dad served the church and enrolled in a masters program at Harding College.

In 1967 the family made a move to Toronto, Canada for 8 meaningful years   In Toronto, Mom became a successful real estate agent.

In 1975, Dad, Mom and Holly moved on a clear call to Phoenix where Mom started her own real estate company and they started Redeemer Fellowship Church.  In 1981, there was another clear call from God to “Go to China’.

They returned to the States in 1983 and moved to Tulsa, OK to begin University Language Services to train and send teachers to China to serve as English teachers.  Hundreds were trained and sent, many of whom are still there today.

Mom again opened a real estate office, Tulsa Realty Network, and worked in the business until the last few years of her life.  In 2003, Nita Gantt Burns, Dwyatt and Wanda’s oldest daughter passed away after a valiant and faith-filled battle with cancer.

In the summer of 2016 Mom’s health had declined and it seemed best for her to go and live with Mary and David, on their family farm near Laverne, OK for a short period of time and also with Holly in Tulsa for a few months.  In the spring of 2017, following a hospital stay in Tulsa, she moved into Parkview Pointe Assisted Living Center in Laverne.  She loved her time there and loved and was loved by the residents and staff. After a short stay in the Harper County Community Hospital and the Grace Living Center in Buffalo she peacefully left this life and is now in the presence and embrace of Jesus her Savior.

Mom was a loving and sacrificially giving person.  Her greatest love was her passionate love of God, followed by her deep love for her kids and grandbabies.  She loved much and well and is already missed by those who knew her best.

Survivors include her sister Nelda Witt of Flagler, CO, sister-in-law Fran Roberts of Hooker, OK, daughter Mary Nell Nine and husband David of rural Laverne, OK, son Delton Gantt of Tulsa, OK, and daughter Holly Alcott of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Rachel Maciaszek and husband Brian of Greenville, NC, Sarah Davis and husband Clayton of Glenpool, OK, Jeff Nine and wife Cheri of Oklahoma City, OK,  Andy Nine and wife Kelsi of Edmond, OK, Heather Gantt of Dallas, TX,  Joseph Alcott and wife Candice of Tulsa, OK,  Jordan Alcott and wife Kasey of Broken Arrow, OK.  Additionally, she mom is survived by twenty, much loved, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends far and near.
