W. Jean Morris, age 91, of Johnson, KS, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson. She was born on October 13, 1934, in Garden City, KS, to Lewellyn Charles and Flossie Elmira (Hisey) Sturdevant.
On July 19, 1953, Jean married Virgil Moyne Morris in Garden City, KS. Throughout her
married life she embraced the role as a farmer’s wife. She began her career at Stanton
County Hospital as a nurse’s aide and eventually became a registered medical technologist in the laboratory. In addition to her medical career, Jean also gave her time and care to the Stanton County Senior Center, where she worked as the director for many years.
Jean was known for her remarkable ability to figure out how to do just about anything. She was deeply creative and talented. Jean was a passionate artist who loved painting, sewing, quilting, crocheting, ceramics and art journaling. Her work reflected both her patience and her eye for detail. Uniquely for her time, Jean was also very tech-savvy. Her faith was very important to her. Jean was a devoted member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church for over 60 years. She found great joy sharing her faith in her community, especially in her Bible study “Tea and Talk”. She also contributed her time to the hospital auxiliary, Extension Homemakers Unit, and was active at Main Artery Studio in Ulysses, Kansas.
She is survived by her children, Michael Lee Morris and wife Connie of Overland Park, KS, Patricia Jean Long and husband John of Olathe, KS, Sharita Kay Floyd and husband Daniel of El Dorado, KS, and Randall Moyne Morris and wife Angela of Johnson, KS; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Linda Kay Downing and husband Randy of Shawnee, KS; and brother, Timothy Lee Sturdevant and wife Cheryl of Garden City, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant sisters and her husband, Virgil Morris.
Funeral service will be Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with Pastor Erik Miravete officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
