Teresa Grounds

Joe Denoyer - May 11, 2022 1:56 am

Teresa Ann (Rubart) Grounds, 66, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed to her eternal home on Sunday May 8th, 2022, in Houston, TX. She fought a courageous battle with cancer, staying positive, and constantly focusing on her family and those she loved. Many daily prayers were offered from all over the USA and Africa.

Teresa was born in Emporia, KS on October 24, 1955, to Perry and Dorothy Rubart. She was the middle of 3 sisters. She graduated from Ulysses High School and went on to pursue a degree in Education at Abilene Christian University. While there, she was part of the Women’s Basketball Team and would later in life be inducted into their Hall of Fame. She also was part of the gymnastics team which would prove impressive to her kids and later, grandkids. On March 20, 1982, she married Greg Grounds and they spent their years in Hooker, Oklahoma. Teresa was able to be a full-time homemaker and spent much quality time with all three of her children.

Teresa spent her life in service to others. She strived “to love like Jesus loved”. Many of her family and friends were the recipients of this love and service. If she wasn’t caring for close family and friends, she was meeting new ones. She served her community in many ways, participated in disaster relief efforts in the US (her favorite secular service) and took many trips to Ghana, Africa teaching the gospel to many. The people she met and loved in these places quickly became part of her extended family.

She enjoyed serving others through food and would often prepare a feast for widows, preachers, friends, family, Greg’s coworkers and anyone else who stopped by. When it came to her grandkids, she would fix their favorites on demand and provide everything needed for funny face lunches.

Teresa leaves behind her husband Greg of 40 years, her children Jason and Sarah, Nic and Natalie, and Megan, grandchildren: Ben, Elizabeth, Addison, Isaac, and Ryder, her parents: Perry and Dorothy Rubart, her sisters and their husbands, Jackie and Wendell Beall and Debbie and Kenny Sneyd, her brother and sister in-law Chris and Kelie Grounds, and sister-in-law Traci Williams and fiancé Terry Lohmann, a large extended family, and countless friends in the US and Africa who she loved like family.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the Hooker Church of Christ with Jordan Arnold officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Hooker Church of Christ Disaster Relief or Hooker Church of Christ for African Missions and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945.
