Sharon Herbel Parks: UPDATE

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Sharon Arlene Renfro Herbel-Parks was born December 22, 1947 in Oxnard, California to Eugene Lloyd Renfro and Rosalea Michler Renfro. She passed from this life on September 14, 2012 in Sun City Center, Florida.

Following her big brother, Sharon moved from the Pacific coast to the panhandle of Oklahoma where she met and married Harold Herbel of Hooker in the fall of 1969. The couple raised their two boys in Hooker while Harold served as the town butcher and Sharon as the town baker, first at the grocery store then in her own bakery. Sharon eventually became the supervisor of the school cafeteria where she was often called “Momma Sharon” by the children. Sharon and Harold were both active in civic clubs and were members of the local Nazarene Church. Following Harold’s death in 2003, Sharon married Phil Parks, a Nazarene pastor and hospice chaplain, of Houston, Texas. The couple resided in Houston for 6 years before moving to bake once again in Oklahoma City. In January, they retired to Florida.

Sharon is preceded in death by her father, Eugene Lloyd Renfro and her mother, Rosalea Michler Ketcherside; her sister, Debbie Jameson; her first husband, Harold J. Herbel, and her grandson, Braxton Andrew Herbel.

She is survived by her husband of the home, Philip Parks, of Ruskin, Florida; two sons, Tim Herbel, and daughter Kinsey of Edmond, OK and Jeff & Kitty Herbel, and son Zayne of Enid, OK; two “adopted” sons, John Hayes of Edmond, OK and Brian Keller of Omaha, NE; a step-son, Steve & Lisa Parks and step-grand daughters Nadia and Melia of Lima, Ohio and step-daughter Marla & Robert Aguilar, and step-grand daughters Dawn Nye and Kari Tesdahl of Sweetser, Indiana; her brother, Johnny and Shirley Renfro of Pilot Point, TX; her sister, Donna Williamson of Sumter, SC and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Monte Evans presiding. Interment will follow at the Hooker Cemetery. The family will be greeting friends on Thursday evening, September 20, at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.
