Pat Cooper

Pat Cooper, age 82, died Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Morton County Senior Living Community in Elkhart, Kansas.  She was born March 14, 1938, in Elkhart, Kansas, the daughter of Glenn and Wanda (Burkett) Handlin.  

 

Pat was born, raised and attended school in Elkhart. Her father operated one of the first barber shops in town, where she spent most of her childhood. Pat married her first husband, Bob Smith, and together they shared one son, Robert. After their divorce Pat married Gene Cooper, whom she met at school, on June 15, 1958, in Elkhart. She worked at the Morton County Long Term Care as the first Activities Director for seven years. Pat was very proud to be a member of the Elkhart Community where she cleaned houses, volunteered, and drove the van for the Wednesday night kids at The Church of God, where she was a faithful member. She retired in 2000 and spent time with friends, family and loved ones. Pat loved dogs, animals, sharing her love of chocolate, and especially the town of Elkhart.

 

Pat is survived by her son, Robert Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was dearly loved by; two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. 

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Gene. 

 

Memorial service will be Saturday, October 17, 2020, at 1:00 PM at First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas, with Pastor Denny Huebner officiating. Service will also be available on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Live.  Inurnment will follow at Elkhart Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Morton County EMS in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.  Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
