Michael B. (Mike) Norman

Michael B. (Mike) Norman, age 72, passed away Tuesday morning, November 21, 2017, at the Minneola District Hospital, Minneola, Kansas.
 
He was born September 20, 1945, at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Howard and Geraldine (Coon) Norman.   As a young boy he attended the Fowler school system, graduating from Fowler High School in 1963.  After his graduation, he attended Dodge City Community College and later Fort Hays State University where he received his degree in agriculture in 1968.  Upon his graduation he joined the United States Army serving at Ft. Hood, Texas, from 1968 until 1970.  After his discharge, he returned to Fowler and began his career as a farmer for many years ending his career at Pride Ag of Dodge City as a dry rig operator.
 
He was a member of the Fowler United Methodist Church, Kiwanis International, and had served on the Fowler School Board for many years and as president.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodworking, music, singing, yardwork, watching the University of Kansas basketball teams and following the Royals.
 
On August 26, 1967, he married Sandra Norman at the United Methodist Church in Fowler.  She survives.
 
Other survivors include his children, Melissa (Missy) Blackburn (Walter) of Wichita, Kansas, Shannon Schneller of Overland Park, Kansas, and Joshua Norman (Ashley) of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, David Norman (Irene) of Nickerson, Kansas; a sister Pat Zwickle (Larry) of Hays, Kansas; six grandchildren, Zack Schneller, Annie Schneller, Sophia Schneller, Michelle Schneller, Wade Blackburn, and Ava Norman; a sister-in-law, Betty Pittman (Ken) of Mansfield, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
 
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the Fowler United Methodist Church.  In accordance with Mike’s request, cremation has taken place.  Private family inurnment will be in the Fowler Cemetery at a later date.
 
The family would welcome memorials to the Fowler United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
