Merle G. Krause

Merle G. Krause, age 90, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Brookdale Liberal Springs, Liberal, Kansas.

He was born June 29, 1930, at Talmage, Kansas, the son of Fred and Emma (Berbermeyer) Krause.  As a young boy he attended school at a rural country school until the age of seven, moving with his family to Scott City, Kansas.  He later graduated from Scott City High School in 1948.  After his graduation, he attended Kansas State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Engineering.

In 1956, he married Phyllis Latzke at the Lyona United Methodist Church, Lyona, Kansas.  After their marriage, the couple made their home in Scott City, moving to Plains in 1978.  A long-time Plains resident, he was a farmer.

He was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church; served on the Southwest Guidance Center Board of Directors; Goundwater Management District #3 Board of Directors; the Kansas Corn Commission: a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon; and a proud supporter of Kansas State University.  He enjoyed farming, traveling, reading, spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Liberal; children, Dianne Kressin and husband Richard of Brenham, Texas, and David Krause and wife Tiffani of Plains; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Krause and Stanley Krause; and a sister, Ruth Krause.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020, at the Plains United Methodist Church, Plains.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.

The family would welcome memorials to Youthville or Camp Lakeside in care of the funeral home.
