Mary (Guerrero) Romero

Mary (Guerrero) Romero, age 92, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, in Hugoton, Kansas.

The daughter of Jesus and Manula (Oliverez) Guerrero, she was born on May 23, 1930, in Bellfont, Kansas. They both preceded her in death.

She and Eliseo “Leo” Romero were married September 6, 1947, in Clayton, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1997.

Mary was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church of Hugoton. She was a devoted Catholic. Most days you could find her with her rosary- praying along with Sister Angelica.

She was a devoted wife and mother to her children. Her best times could be found in her kitchen, she loved and enjoyed cooking. Most of her joys came from grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary dedicated many years for Pioneer Manor as a cook and Stevens County Hospital as a housekeeper. She later worked for the TLC fitness center and later retired.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Romero and wife Margie, Albuquerque, NM., Tommy Romero Sr. and wife Mary, Hugoton, KS.; one daughter, Nellie Garcia, Hugoton, KS.; stepson, Ernie Romero and wife Ernestine, Raton, NM.; stepdaughter, Evangeline “Van” Townsend, Kane, PA.; three sisters, Susie Medina, AR., Josie Orosco and husband George, Hugoton, KS., Mary Jane Lopez, Dodge City, KS.; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded by her husband; parents; son, Leo “Moe” Romero; stepson, Andy Romero; stepdaughter, Kathy (Roybal) Saldana; brothers, Joe B. Guerrero, Manuel Guerrero, Junior Guerrero; sisters, Rosie Sandoval, Elvira Medina; grandchildren, Mark Romero, Anthony Romero, Starla Irwin, Matilda Romero, Roman “Zinky” Romero, Susanne “Weedy” Romero, Brian Roybal, Dylan Roybal.

A memorial has been established for St. Helen Catholic Church of Hugoton. In the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022, 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. and Friday, August 12, 2022, 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., at Robson Funeral Home, 314 S. Van Buren, Hugoton, Kansas.

Rosary Vigil will be held Friday, August 12, 2022, at 7 P.M. at St. Helen Catholic Church, Hugoton, Kansas.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 10 A.M., at St. Helen Catholic Church with Father Rudin Din presiding. Burial to follow at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, Kansas.
