Martha Lee (Purcell) Potts

Martha Lee (Purcell) Potts, 98, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Brookdale Liberal Springs, in Liberal, KS.

She was born on December 13, 1921, on the family farm in Clay County, Illinois, Blair Township. Her parents were Otto and Ganell (Pierson) Purcell. She had 3 sisters, Marjorie, Iris, and Carolyn. Iris survives.

She graduated high school in Louisville, Illinois. On May 23, 1943 She married Ivan Potts. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2017. They had three children, Rex Otto, Jerry Lee and Linda Sue. Linda of Liberal, KS survives.

Martha moved with her family to the mountains of Colorado in the late 40’s. She fell in love with the mountains and thought they were a “little bit of heaven on earth”. Ivan worked in the oil field and the family moved all over Colorado, Wyoming and finally settled in Liberal, KS.

Martha was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Liberal. When she was young, she sang in the choir and later helped with the nursery. She desired her children to know Jesus as Lord and encouraged and raised them in His love.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Potts of Liberal, KS.
Sister Iris Bailey of Pana, IL.
4 Grandchildren; Aaron Neal, Cody Potts, Tommy Grace and Ivan Dean.
5 Great Grandchildren; Caleb Neal, Hudson Potts, Nikkie, Jade and Matthew.
2 Great Great Gandchildren; Feather Joe and Melanie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan, Sons Rex Otto and Jerry Lee Potts, Sisters Marjorie Birch and Carolyn Matthews and her husband Uncle Don.

A graveside service was her request. It will be held at Liberal Cemetery on September 22, 2020 at 2pm with Pastor Mark Cress presiding.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W 2nd Street, Liberal, KS 67901.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to The Gideons, or First Southern Baptist Church, in care of the Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
