Marilyn Lucille French, 91, passed away on September 18, 2024 at Rolling Hills Health and Rehab Center. She was born on April 16, 1933 at the Dodge City Hospital to Edward & Evelyn (Reiss) Langhofer of Plains, Kansas.
She graduated high school in 1951, then went on to Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas. Her father often flew her back and forth to Hutchinson from Plains.
Marilyn & Wilbur were married on October 15, 1955 in the Plains United Methodist Church in Plains, Kansas. They lived in Liberal, Kansas starting out in an apartment, then purchased a home in Liberal, Kansas.
On October 13, 1962, they had their daughter, Jolene French at the Epworth Hospital in Liberal, Kansas.
Marilyn held several positions working outside the home, she worked at D. K. Zimmerman & Co. Insurance as a bookkeeper and policy writer, she also worked with the United Way as the executive secretary. She was also the secretary for the Auxiliary of Southwest Medical Center working in the snack bar.
Marilyn enjoyed baking, playing the organ and piano, being involved in church, bowling in Liberal with the Breakfast Bowlers League, and organized our family photographs and put them all in albums. During school years 1972-1975, she was recognized for her Voluntary Service in the McKinley Grade School Library.
In1991, they moved to Plains, Kansas to help Marilyn’s parents with the farming, and also look after Ed & Evelyn.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Wilbur French, her daughter, Jolene French, her grandchildren, Kristen and her husband, Justin Maxfield, Parkville, MO and Ashley and her husband, Wichita, KS, great grandchildren, Carson Maxfield, Avery Maxfield, Liam Pfeifer, and Declan Pfeifer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Plains Methodist Church. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
