Marie Dunnagan

Joe Denoyer - December 21, 2017 8:26 am

Leona Marie (Judd) Dunnagan,86, of Hooker, Oklahoma stepped from time into eternity with Jesus on December 20, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Marie was born December 28, 1930 on the family farm NW of Hooker the daughter of Frederick and Rosa McCormick Judd.

She was a child of the Great Depression and was a great history teacher for the kids and grandkids.  She met Red while she was in high school as he was working through the area on a harvest crew.  And the rest, as they say, is history.  Training for her future family came in the form of learning to deal with her 4 brothers-in-law, as, one by one, they each came and lived with the newlyweds for a period of time.  And she did deal with them!

Marie was fun-loving, bingo and domino-playing, slot machine gambling, cruise-taking, main-street-dragging-with-grandkids kind of gal.  If there was fun in it, she was there. With her co-conspirator and high school classmate, Ruby, they made sure to always keep their kids guessing as to where they might be or where they might go next.  Mom left Hooker in 2014 and moved to Ardmore.  There she quickly made new friends and continued living her zest for life.  She lived fully, loved boldly, and will be missed greatly.

In addition to managing the B.H. Dunnagan household for 42 years, she worked as a telephone operator in Weatherford and Hooker, was co-owner of Dunnagan’s Jewelry, Dunnagan’s Instrument Service, Hooker Laundry, and Winter’s Motel.  She also worked at First National Bank and Herbel Construction.

She was member of, and involved in, Hooker Church of Christ for many years.

She was involved in Zephyr Ladies Club, Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star (50-year member), Business Women’s club, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a precinct election official, and a pretty good Mom, Grandma, and Great-grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B.H. (Red) Dunnagan; her parents, Fred and Rosa Judd; two sisters, Ruth Cowles and Velma Warren; two brothers, Orville Judd, and Virgil Judd; and an infant son.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Estelle Vandanack, Rosa Dunnagan, Vera Dunnagan, and Edith Dunnagan; brothers-in-law, Bill Dunnagan and Jerry Dunnagan; daughter, Patricia Ann and husband Ray (Butch) Rich of Amarillo, TX, son Beryl Joe Dunnagan and wife Roxy of Ardmore, OK, and son, Mikel Lynn Dunnagan and wife Detta of Yukon, OK; 7 grandchildren – Sarah Jordan and husband Gary; Emily Winkle and husband Curtis; Curtis Rich and wife Cara; Zachary Dunnagan and wife Lesley; Trevor Dunnagan and wife Amanda; Brooke McCune and husband Kris; and Dakota Dunnagan; 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday December 28, 2017 at the Hooker Church of Christ in Hooker with Dan Herald officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Oklahoma.
