Margaret C. Forbes

Margaret C. Forbes, age 92, of Elkhart, Kansas died April 17, 2012 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born August 10, 1919 in Stafford County, Kansas, the oldest of four children. She was the daughter of Charlie and Elizabeth (Hatzenbuehler) Sloan.

Margaret moved with her family to Morton County, Kansas in 1939. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Dodge City, Kansas, and then came back to Morton County to help her Dad on the farm. Elkhart, Kansas is where she met Lester Forbes. They were married April 9, 1944, and have lived here since. Margaret was a homemaker and mother of five. She was also very active at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. She was a member of the Alter Society and was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, traveling and gambling in Las Vegas.

Survivors include five children, Joe Forbes and June of Commerce City, Colorado, Agnes Jantz and Marvin of Pueblo, Colorado, Francis Forbes and Cathy of Ulysses, Kansas, Martha Durkee and David of Elkhart, Kansas, Vince Forbes and Joyce of Elkhart, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester on May 23, 2001; two sisters, Delphine Turner and Loretta Howell.

Vigil service and rosary will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 7:00 PM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Reverend Jim Dieker presiding. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Pascal Klein officiating. Interment will be at the Elkhart Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, April 20, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
