Marcelino “Chelino” Alvarez

After an amazing and full life, Marcelino “Chelino” Alvarez, age 90, died Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.

He was born on November 23, 1933, in Mexico, the son of Udelio Alvarez and Antonia Ibarra.

Marcelino dedicated 28 years of his life to working as an equipment operator for J&R Sand, showcasing dedication and commitment in his career. He was united in marriage to Maria Elena Alvarez on December 18, 1995, in Liberal, Kansas.

Marcelino was known for his love of travel, fishing, and camping with his cherished family. He enjoyed going to the beach one of the highlights of his adventures was a memorable trip to Mazatlán, where he created lasting memories filled with joy and laughter.

Marcelino will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Udelio and Antonia.

Visitation will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Hornung Family Funeral Home.

Rosary to follow at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 1, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 N. Calhoun, Liberal, Kansas.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Reverend Charles Seiwert will be celebrating.

Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery, north of Turpin, Oklahoma.

Memorial Donations suggested by the family to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
