MEADE – Malcolm A. Clay, age 94, passed away late Wednesday evening, June 19, 2019, at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Ft. Dodge, Kansas.

He was born August 23, 1924, in rural Meade County, Kansas, the son of Odis O. and Minnie (VanHoesen) Clay. As a young boy he attended grade school in rural Meade County and later Meade High School. In 1941, he joined the United States Navy, serving until 1945. After his discharge, he returned to Meade and began working as an electrician for several years. He later began working for the State of Kansas Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after many years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion, serving as commander for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

On October 2, 1944, he married Dorothy M. Caskill at Trenton, New Jersey. She precedes him in death on April 23, 2003.

He is survived by a daughter, Beverly J. Stubblefield and husband, Bill of Fowler, Kansas; two grandchildren, Tina Marie Hiatt and Mitchell Shane Stubblefield; and five great-grandchildren, Derek Stubblefield, Jacob Stubblefield, Cierra Winfrey, Caitlyn Rankin, and Payton Rickers .

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; a brother, Walter K. Clay; and two sisters, Lovella Bergner and Voyza Gardner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2019, at the First Baptist Church, Meade. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
