Lucy C. Bromwell

Lucy C. Bromwell, age 87, passed away late Wednesday evening, June 24, 2026, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.

She was born August 25, 1938, at Plains, Kansas, the daughter of Willibrod and Mary Violet (Davis) Beckman.  As a young girl, she attended school in Plains, graduating from Plains High School in 1956.  On September 22, 1956, she married Mannley Steele Bromwell at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Plains.  After their marriage, the couple made their home in Plains where she worked as the USD 483 school board clerk for thirty years.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, Live on Stage Board Member, Pinochle Club, and an active member of the Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers, painting, sewing and crocheting, playing cards, games, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Darren Bromwell and wife Dolores of Friendswood, Texas; three daughters, Melinda Sue Justice and husband Jon of Plains, Kansas, Lana Jo Winkler of Liberal, Kansas, and Mitzi Holland of Victoria, Texas; two brothers, Kenny Beckman of Pratt, Kansas, and Jim Beckman of Clinton, Missouri; grandchildren, Erin Paul and husband Stephen, Tyrel Justice, Talynn Willis and husband Dallin, Chad Murrell, Jessica Winkler, Dustin Holland, and Daniela Bromwell; great-grandchildren, Victor and wife Amber, Veronica and husband Anthony, Christopher and wife Crista, Dakota, Harley, Lane, Brylee, Zaylee, Taylee, Ephraim, Cecelia, and Walter; and great-great-grandchildren, Gunner, Waylan, Beckett, and Michael.

She is preceded in death by her husband on March 27, 2016; her parents; a brother, Roderick Beckman; and a sister, Bertha Ball.

Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.  Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery.  In accordance to her request, cremation has taken place.  Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas, has been entrusted with arrangements.

The family would welcome memorials to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
